Question 1 evaluation

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

 • Enigma is created throughout the sequence in a number of ways.

- one of them is non-diegetic soundtrack, it starts at a slow pace and gradually increases in pace as is the sequence progresses.

- Another significant form of creating enigma was masking the protagonists identity, conforming with some of the iconography seen in established thriller films.

- Here is a screen shot form the opening scene of ‘Omniscient’ our aim was to mask the protagonists identity using natural darkness and staged lighting to impose shadows on the characters face. Our goal was to create an anonymous character with a sinister persona, helping to portray to the audience that is the protagonist.

- K We also tried to include iconography in our thriller. From analysing icons in already established successful thriller films we then went and inserted our own to help construct a successful sequence

 - Here is screenshot of the protagonist’s rifle. Our goal was to use stereotypical thriller weapons- guns- in our opening sequence. This helps to create an environment of danger all so familiar in Thriller films. With the silenced gun and the gunman’s identity masked, an environment of enigma is formed for the audience.

 - In critically acclaimed thriller ‘The Zodiac’ the opening scene shows footage of a city and a neighbour hood in a typical normal day mood with use of a non-diegetic soundtrack. We wanted to implement our own interpretation, by changing the non-diegetic soundtrack to dark and mysterious.
